Submission Requirements of Nordic HTA Organizations for Medical Technologies

While health technology assessments, or HTAs, of pharmaceutical products have existed for a while, HTA organizations have in recent years taken medical technologies under their wings as well. Nordic countries' submissions are often grouped together for efficiency. However, the assessment of medtech is a developing area, and there is no current consensus on methods.

We conducted a study to assess the range of medtech processes and requirements in Nordic countries. We developed an online survey for Nordic HTA organizations requesting information on the selection process, general submissions process, and types of evidence considered part of the clinical and economic assessment.

We discovered that there are many similarities between the organizations that could provide efficiencies. However, medtech companies must be aware of the differences – especially in the selection process – that will impact evidence generation needs and submission planning.
