While plain language summaries (PLS) are becoming common practice in clinical trial reports since the European Medicines Agency mandated their inclusion in 2019, their adoption has been slower in other areas of research, including health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) studies. However, patient data are vital to HEOR research, and we need to make HEOR findings more accessible to patients and the public. Medical writers are uniquely positioned to serve as advocates for the inclusion of PLSs, which both inform patients of research performed using their data and provides clients with expanded business development through outreach. This session will guide participants in reframing complex HEOR research, including real-world evidence and cost-benefit analyses, into accessible PLS and identify tools to enhance PLS development.
